When should the gasket be replaced?

Sealing, whatever its form, is vital to ensure the proper functioning of the gearbox. A lack of sealing can quickly damage the gears.

• During an inspection, it is possible to detect traces of oil. This is usually the result of a poor seal, thus requiring replacement of the gasket.
• If the sail fails to inflate, the lines can get stuck in the joint between the propeller and the gearbox. 

How to replace a gasket?

• Once the seal is accessible, remove the old seal, taking care not to damage the shaft or the ring housing.
• Clean the surfaces carefully to make them perfectly smooth. Use a very fine abrasive tape for this. Remove grease residue using a degreaser (brake cleaner).
• Place the new gasket flat on the ring.
